Services
Sharewood offers a variety of services, all of which are free. Some are offered regularly while others are only available at specific times each month. At this time, we do not provide general health physicals.
Primary care medicine
We have trained MD physicians on staff each night to provide diagnosis, treatment and referrals for patients. If you have a sudden or ongoing health problem and don't know the cause, our doctors can still help you.
Confidential HIV, sexual health, and STD testing and counseling
We perform rapid HIV tests with results in 20 minutes. In addition, we test for gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, hepatitis A and syphilis. More importantly, consult with trained counselors regarding sexual health and disease prevention - take your health into your own hands.
Hepatitis B screening
If you think you may have been exposed to hepatitis B, come to the clinic and get a free screening. Learn more about hepatitis B here and here. Please note that Sharewood is currently unable to provide hepatitis B vaccination services.
Mental health services
We have physicians available for free mental health evaluations and referrals in the Boston area. If you are suffering from depression, anxiety, substance abuse, or any other problems in your mental health we will be able to help you. If you are having an immediate mental health emergency please call 911.
Annual flu shots
The Boston Coalition for Adult Immunization provides us with yearly influenza vaccinations, which we administer free of charge. In 2007/08, 207 cases of influenza were reported to the Boston Public Health Commission (link to report). Stay healthy this winter and help prevent the flu from spreading.
Case management services
Case management is a procedure to plan, seek, and monitor services for different social agencies on behalf of a client. If you have questions, want to come up with a health plan, or want to sign up for Mass Health Care, Sharewood can help.
Laboratory testing
We are able to run most laboratory tests, including (but not limited to) blood glucose, rapid pregnancy, rapid strep, and blood serology. If you have a specific question about tests provided, please email Susan Eklund, the Clinic Administrator.
Vision and optical services
Full eye exams are available on the first Tuesday of every month, provided by Student Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity of New England (SVOSH-ONE) with an attending optometrist. Services include ocular health assessment and eyeglass prescriptions.
Vision screenings are available on the third Tuesday of every month, provided by the Tufts chapter of Unite For Sight. Please email Emily Waisbren any questions about vision screening services.
Dental screenings
Dental students from Tufts University offer free screenings the first and third Tuesday of each month, from 7:30 until 9:00 PM.
Nutritional screenings
Note: We periodically offer nutritional screening, please call for more information.
